
Funeral services for Jack Porterfield, age 68 of Centerville, will be held Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at Walters Funeral Home in Centerville. Pastor Tuffy Loftin, of the Leon County Cowboy Church, will officiate. Interment will follow in the Bennett Cemetery near Groveton, Texas. Visitation will be held Tuesday morning from 9 AM to service time at the Walters Funeral Home.
Jack Porterfield was born on November 17, 1943 in Austin, Texas to Jack & Ada Porterfield. He graduated from Reagan High School in 1962. In the summer of 1963, he met and married Shirley Karcher. After marriage, Jack was drafted into the United States Army and served with the 173rd Airborne Brigade 2nd Battalion/503D Infantry (Sky Soldiers). Mr. Porterfield served in three campaigns in the Republic of Vietnam from 1965 to 1967. Mr. Porterfield earned several medals and commendations including the Vietnam Service Medal, Airborne Jump Wings, Unity Medal 173, National Defense Medal, Combat Badge and Purple Heart.
After returning home, Jack continued his career with Southern Pacific Railroad and retired with 26 years of service as the General Superintendent of Englewood Yard in Houston, Texas. He was hired by Trans-Global Solutions in 1986 where her retired in 2007 as the Vice President of Rail Operations.
Jack & Shirley Porterfield retired to their ranch in Centerville, Texas in 2007. His interests included spending time with his family, cattle ranching, carpentry, hunting and fishing with his grandchildren. He devoted much of his time as a father and grandfather, never being too busy to sit down and assist his family members with the many hard decisions in life.
Mr. Porterfield is survived by his wife of forty-six years, Shirley Porterfield; sister, Janice Guiberteau; three sons and their spouses, Randall & Stephanie Porterfield of New Caney, Texas, Brad & Lesa Porterfield of Pearland, Texas and Kenneth & Elizabeth Porterfield of Centervill, Texas and nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Jack & Ada Porterfield.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Delores Moers will be held Monday, May 14, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. in the First Baptist Church in Crockett with Rev. Keeney Dickenson officiating. Graveside services will follow at 3:00 p.m. in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Houston. Family will receive friends Sunday evening beginning at 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund.
Mrs. Delores Moers, age 79, of Crockett, passed away Thursday, May 10, 2012 in the East Texas Medical Center-Tyler. She was born January 20, 1933 in Navasota, Texas and had lived in Crockett since 1978. Mrs. Moers was a housewife and member of the First Baptist Church in Crockett.
Survivors include husband of 61 years, A.C. Moers of Crockett; children, Gary Moers and wife, Diane of Crockett, Gail Henning of Katy, Donna Breck and husband, Joseph of Pensacola, Florida; grandchildren, Kimberly Vogt and husband, Russell of Houston, Ginny Moers of Huntsville; half sister, Mary Elder of Bryan; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Preceded in death by parents, Fred and Hazel Engelke; and sister, Joyce Liere. Callaway-Allee Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Evelyn Carroll will be held on Monday, May 14, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at Callaway-Allee Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery, in Percilla. Family will receive friends Monday morning.
Mrs. Evelyn Carroll (Mom-N-Law), age 82, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 10, 2012 at Houston Hospice, with cancer. She was born July 10, 1929 in Fayetteville, Texas to Frank and Petrolina Kocurek. She married Earl Ray Carroll in 1947. Evelyn worked at C. E. King High School in the school cafeteria in Sheldon where she and Earl Ray resided until his retirement in 1975. The moved to the Crockett area where they enjoyed retirement and working occasional jobs at the Crockett Family Resort on Houston County, a working cattle ranch in Jewett and her furniture upholstery business.
Evelyn was blessed with a very active lifestyle able to maintain her two acres in Crockett mowing, tilling and planting her garden, harvesting and shelling pounds of pecans, quilting, doing her woodworking projects, fishing (her and Aunt Georgies' favorite time) and doing crossword and picture puzzles. She enjoyed her weekend phone calls with her sister, Georgia and her Cousin Martha reminiscing about the good old days.
Left to honor Evelyn, and remember her love are Evelyn's one daughter; Connie Mahaffey and son-in-law Jim; sister, Georgia Brocato; special friend, Mary Mahaffey; eight grandchildren; Tamara Kinback, Tonya Heuer, Terria Jones, Jon Wilcox, Misty Ballinger, Sonya, Eric, and Erica Mahaffey; twelve great-grandchildren; Kaylie, Vanessa, Allison, and Emily (Barge), Amanda and Bryana (Jones), Karly and Dean (Wilcox), Heather and Nick (Coon), Summer (Mahaffey), and JT (Ballenger); three great-great-grandchildren; Joslyn and Dione Barge, Aslyn Coon and numerous nieces and nephews. Also to be included are her special friends Helen and Albert Harris, who helped to watch out for her at her home in Crockett. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Ray, her daughter Patricia Carroll, and grandchildren Ricky and Latisha (Mahaffey). Evelyn will be remembered as the best Mother, Mom-N-Law, Grandma, Granny, Aunt, Sister and friend. She will be missed by all. Callaway-Allee Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Terry Mayhugh, age 47, of Crockett, passed away Friday, May 11, 2012 in the Houston Methodist Hospital. Terry was born January 2, 1965 in Merkel, Texas. He was a maintenance mechanic and was presently employed at Alloy Polymers. Terry is survived by his wife, Mary Mayhugh of Crockett; children, Marcy, Cade, and Cory; grandchildren, Miles, Brooklyn, Bralyn, Brilee, Gavin, Jordan and Rosita; step-children, Tyler, Wesley and Allison; sisters, Cindy Jeffcoat and husband, Lanny of Crosby, Carlotta Gonzales and husband, Victor of Pflugerville, Pam McKay and husband, Mike of Crockett, Melanie Smith and husband, Kevin of Crockett; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Mr. C. B. Saxon, age 93, of Crockett, passed away Monday, May 14, 2012 in the East Texas Medical Center - Crockett. He was born June 29, 1918 in Crockett, Texas and was a resident of Crockett all of his lifetime. Mr. Saxon was a veteran of the United States Army having served during World War II. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Crockett. Mr. Saxon was a retired insurance salesman for Southwestern Life Insurance Company and was also a farmer and rancher. Survivors include granddaughter, Mary Beth Murchison of Cedar Hill; son-in-law, Jimmy Murchison of Salado; niece, Charlene Chapman of Dallas; numerous other relatives.
