MAY 8, 2008

There will be a Cajun Bayou Jamboree held at the St. Francis Catholic Church on Thursday May 8th at 6:30pm. There will be gumbo, rice, and red beans, and all the trimmings available along with lots of fun. Proceeds benefit the Silver Star Room, Sponsored by: Adult Protective Services Board of Directors. Carry outs are available at 5:30pm. Call 546-8547.


MAY 9, 2008

An End of the Year Picnic for the Crockett Early Childhood will be held on Friday May 9th from 10am until 2pm at the Early Childhood. There will be games and refreshments served.

A Bake Sale for Justin Willis, a Junior at Jarvice Christian College, will be held on Friday May 9th at the Community Care Center of Crockett beginning at 8am. It is to help fund a Mission Trip to Nicaragua.


MAY 10, 2008

The 32nd Annual Slocum VFD BBQ and School Reunion will be held on Saturday May 10th. There will be food, entertainment, arts, crafts, and BBQ. Trail ride will begin at 8am, the BBQ at 10am, the live entertainment at 11am, and the reunion at 2pm. The 1st Annual Michelle Lynn Holsey Foundation Golf Tournament will be held on Saturday, May 10th at the Lake Estates Golf Club in Trinity. Tee off will begin at 9am. They will have use of a swimming pool for any spouses and children not playing. They will be selling sliced beef sandwiches with chips and a drink.

The Crockett High School will be conducting Pre-Registration for the 2008-2009 School year. Pre-registration for current 10th and 11th graders will be on Tuesday, May 13th at 6pm in the Crockett High School Library.

A meeting of the Board of Trustees for the Kennard Independent School District will be held on Tuesday, May 13th at 6:30pm in the Kennard Administrative Office.

The Texas Agrilife Extension Service in Leon County will be hosting a College and Career Day on Wednesday May 14th from 10am-2pm at the Jewitt Civic Center. All parents of high school juniors and seniors are encouraged to attend. Questions, call 903-536-2531.

The Crockett High School Booster Club invites everyone to the 2008 Sports Banquet, honoring the outstanding 2007-2008 Crockett Bulldog Athletes, on Thursday May 15th at 6pm in the Crockett High School Commons Area.

Mr. Harold Carley, Aging Counselor from Deep East Texas Council of Governments (DETCOG), will be at the Crockett Resource Center for Independent Living (CRCIL) on Thursday, May 15th at 1pm. He will be available to answer questions regarding Medicare Part D and Social Security. Individuals should bring any papers they have questions about or do not understand. The Lovelady Athletic Booster Club is sponsoring the 2007-2008 Athletic Banquet on Thursday May 15th at 6:30pm in the Lovelady Old Gym.

The Latexo High School will be hosting a Blood Drive on Friday, May 16th from 9am until 3pm at the school, Hwy 19 in Latexo. The Staff will be set-up in the Community Center. Eat well before donating and bring your driver's license. Contact Barbara Simpson 936-544-5638 for more information.

The Houston County Ministerial Association would like to invite you to join them at their Annual Baccalaureate Services for the Houston County graduating Seniors on May 18th at the First Assembly of God Church on Loop 304 in Crockett beginning at 6:30pm. At this service, they will be presenting four $500.00 scholarships to four of our area's outstanding seniors. Refreshments will be offered. Come out and enjoy the fellowship and food, and help support the local graduates.

The Crockett Resource Center for Independent Living (CRCIL) will be hosting a Deaf and Hard of Hearing Workshop on Wednesday, May 21st at 10am. Edith Hirth, Resource Coordinator for the Deaf Action Center, East Texas Region 04, will be speaking about the Specialized Telecommunication Assistance Program law. Crockett Bulldogs Baseball Skill Camp will be held for Incoming 2nd-9th graders on June 2nd-6th from 9am-noon at the Crockett High School Baseball Field. Forms can be picked up at all campuses and the administrative office. Forms must be in by May 25th. Walk-ups are welcome and need to be present by 8am on June 2nd. The Houston County Heritage and Historical Cookbook is now available at the Crockett Area Chamber of Commerce. If you placed an order for this cookbook, you may go by the chamber Monday through Friday from 9am until 5pm. If you would like to purchase a book, they are $25.00 each.
